Our Dentists

Peter Sharp
BDS (Ncle) MFDS RCS (Ed)

I graduated from Newcastle University in 2009 and have since strived to provide high quality dental care whilst continuing my career through further study.

Since graduation I have worked both at Newcastle Dental Hospital as a House Officer and in general dental practice. I continued to develop myself completing my MFDS examinations in 2010 and became a member of the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh in 2011. I then studied at the Royal College of Surgeons in London towards the diploma in Restorative Dentistry and then followed this up with a 2 year program enabling me to place and restore implants. I am currently studying for an MSc in Endodontology with the University of Chester as well as starting my Invisalign journey.

As the practice has developed I have worked to provide alternative treatments including Dermal Fillers, treatments with botulinum toxin and the full range of ZO skincare products. This area of my work is extremely interesting and goes hand in hand with my love of cosmetic dentistry.

In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my daughter, going to the gym and watching films as well as taking my dog Chester for walks.

Dr Dominic Lowther

I graduated from Newcastle University in 2009 and since then have worked in general dental practice providing both NHS and private treatments. I carried out my vocational training in Cumbria following this returned to the North East and have developed an interest in carrying out complex endodontic treatment (root canal).

I also enjoy carrying out complex restorative treatment having studied at the Royal College of Surgeons in London, and the GC multi-layered composite restoration course in Leuven Belgium in my spare time,

I enjoy going to the gym and watching films, documentaries, and motorsport particularly MotoGP.

Karishma Ahitan

I graduated from Universidad Europa Valencia in 2018. I have since worked in General Dental practice providing both NHS and Private treatments. I enjoy all aspects of dentistry and I am eager to continue my professional development, further my career and work towards a specialty.

I have recently carried out a facial aesthetics course including lip fillers and I am keen to gain additional skills within this field.
In my free time I enjoy travelling, socialising with friends and going to the gym.

Our Dental Hygienist

Karen Rutherford

I qualified as a Hygienist in 1994 whilst serving in the Royal Air Force. I moved home to Middlesbrough after leaving the RAF to have my children.

I have worked in Private and NHS practices in Teesside throughout my career, and I am happy to now be full time here at Thornaby Dental Centre.

The highlight of my career was being awarded “Dental Hygienist of the Year” at the National Dentistry Awards in 2009.
I love working with patients to overcome any fears and nerves and help them to reach gum health and maintain a healthy mouth.

In my spare time I enjoy walking my two mad spaniels and spending time with my family.

Katie Pinter
Dental Therapist / Hygienist

I graduated from Newcastle University in 2021 with a BSc (hons) Degree in Oral and Dental Health Sciences. I am a dual qualified clinician as both a Dental Therapist and Dental Hygienist. I undertake both NHS and Private treatment.

I pride myself in helping people achieve healthy smiles and helping people overcome their dental anxieties. I work very closely with our dentists and support their patients in providing high quality periodontal and hygiene treatment and restorative treatment.

In my spare time I enjoy playing video games, ice skating and also drawing

Roberta Kime

I graduated from Newcastle University in 2015 with a HND in Dental Hygiene and Therapy. Since then I have worked in a number of practices, gaining experience in both NHS and private care.

I have recently re-joined the Thornaby Dental team and have enjoyed getting to know the patients and new team members and it is great to be back.

My main passion is helping and motivating patients to maintain a healthy mouth, through a combination of gentle clinical skills and helpful advice and care.

Outside of work, I enjoy going to live music, travelling and walking my dog Jackson.
